Israeli Strikes on Lebanon Claim Twenty Lives

(MENAFN) At least 20 people lost their lives and numerous others sustained injuries as Israel unleashed a series of overnight airstrikes across southern Lebanon between Saturday and Sunday, Lebanon's Health Ministry and local sources reported.

The Health Ministry's Emergency Operations Center confirmed that a strike on the Nabatieh district alone killed seven people and wounded eight more. An equal death toll was recorded in the village of Henniyeh, struck separately, while a third attack on the village of Jouaiya claimed two lives and left three others injured.

The bloodshed did not end there. Earlier strikes compounded the toll — two people were killed when a missile hit a residential home in the village of Ebba, and two paramedics affiliated with the Islamic Health Authority were killed in a strike that targeted a facility near Bint Jbeil Hospital in the city of Bint Jbeil.

On the other side of the border, Hezbollah announced it had launched a coordinated salvo of rockets and drones at multiple Israeli military installations along the Lebanon-Israel frontier. The group also claimed it fired an air defense missile at an Israeli helicopter operating over the village of Adaisseh, forcing the aircraft to withdraw from the area.

Sunday also brought a significant loss for Israel, as the military announced the death of one of its soldiers — a dual U.S.-Israeli national — during active combat operations in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military identified the fallen soldier as Sergeant Moshe Yitzchak Hacohen Katz, 22, a native of New Haven, Connecticut, who served in the Paratroopers Brigade. No additional details were released.

The latest violence is rooted in a renewed flare-up that began March 2, when Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel for the first time since a ceasefire reached on Nov. 27, 2024 — a move that reignited fierce Israeli airstrikes across southern and eastern Lebanon and into Beirut's southern suburbs, plunging the fragile border region back into open conflict.
